Aber Falls: Sunshine, Waterfalls & The Perfect Family Walk
There are few things better than a sunny Welsh day that actually behaves itself, and Aber Falls decided to absolutely show off for us. I’m talking blue skies, proper sunshine, and that warm, lazy heat that makes you feel like you’ve stepped off a plane.
We set off early (gold star for us), and honestly, I’d forgotten how easy this walk is. Aber Falls looks dramatic and wild in photos, but the path is so gentle and family friendly. It’s one of those walks where you can just stroll, chat, and stop every five minutes to say 'look at that view!' like you’re in a Visit Wales advert.
The Walk
The route is wide, well kept, and not too long at all, perfect if you want something outdoorsy without committing to a full day of hiking. Kids, dogs, grandparents, everyone would manage this one. Even I wasn’t huffing and puffing, which tells you everything.
Every now and then you catch a glimpse of the waterfall in the distance, and it gives you that little 'I'm nearly there' boost. The sunshine made everything look extra gorgeous, the hills, the greenery, even the sheep were strolling over to us.
Cooling Off at the Falls
And then you reach it: Aber Falls in all its glory.
Because it was such a hot day, we didn’t even hesitate, shoes off, water shoes on and straight into the water. It was freezing, obviously, but in that wonderful way where you instantly feel ten degrees cooler and start laughing because it’s such a shock. Families were paddling, dogs were splashing about, and everyone had that same 'this is bliss' expression.
There’s something so simple and perfect about standing in cold mountain water with the sun beating down on your shoulders. It felt like the kind of moment you want to bottle.
Parking & Practical Bits
A few helpful things if you’re planning a visit:
Parking is around £5
Get there early, it fills up fast on sunny days
Toilets at the car park
Picnic spots dotted along the route
Ideal for families, dogs, and anyone wanting a beautiful walk without the effort
