The Gazelle Hotel, Anglesey : Food, Views & a Perfect Coastal Stop

First Impressions

There are some places that feel like a mini‑getaway the moment you arrive, tucked away, unassuming, and then suddenly unforgettable. The Gazelle Hotel is exactly that. Perched right on the edge of the Menai Strait, it’s the kind of spot where you walk in and instantly feel like you’ve stumbled upon a secret..

The first thing you notice is the view. Honestly, it’s stunning. Snowdonia rising in the distance, Bangor Pier stretching out across the water, and the strait right there beneath you. Even on a cloudy day it has a kind of quiet magic, but we were blessed with the most beautiful weather, which made everything feel even more special.

The Setting (aka the star of the show)

Anglesey has no shortage of beautiful viewpoints, but The Gazelle’s terrace might be one of the best in Wales. You’re so close to the water that you can hear it lapping against the shore while you eat.

It’s the kind of place where you'd want to sit on a summers day, sun beaming down onto your skin with a crisp glass of chardonnay in hand.

Food & Drink

The menu is exactly what you want from a seaside hotel: homecooked, comforting, and unfussy. Think seafood, scampi, burgers, pies, all done properly and served with that relaxed coastal ease Anglesey does so well.

We ordered the king prawn and chorizo on sourdough, which arrived piled high and smelling incredible, rich, garlicky, and with that perfect little kick from the chorizo. The calamari was another standout, light, crisp, and not a hint of chewiness. Everything came out looking thoughtful rather than fussy, and the portions were generous without feeling heavy.

What really made the meal, though, was the service. It had that unmistakable Welsh charm, warm, genuine, and quietly attentive. Nothing was too much trouble, and every interaction felt easy and friendly, the kind of hospitality that makes you relax a little deeper into your chair.

The bar is cosy too, serving Robinsons ales, a good wine list, and a surprisingly impressive selection of gins. It’s the kind of place where you can sit with a drink and watch boats drift past, or just enjoy the easy going, seaside pub atmosphere.

If you’re visiting in summer, book ahead for dinner, the views alone draw a crowd.

Rooms & Atmosphere

The Gazelle has 11 en‑suite rooms, each with its own little personality, but all tied together by that charming sailor meets seaside décor. Think soft nautical colours, little coastal touches, and that relaxed, slightly nostalgic feeling you only get in Welsh seaside hotels. It’s warm, unfussy, and instantly comforting, the kind of place where you drop your bag and feel at home straight away.

Some rooms face the gardens, but the sea view rooms are the real showstoppers. Waking up to the Menai Strait right outside your window feels like a luxury in itself , Snowdonia glowing in the distance, boats drifting past, and that soft morning light bouncing off the water.

The whole hotel has this gentle, coastal charm running through it. Nothing feels overdone or themed, it’s more like a quiet nod to the sea, with their well chosen nautical pieces, the colours, and the atmosphere. It suits the building perfectly.
